"Venoth's Culinary Adventures: Restoran Fu Man @ Tanjung Malim, Perak"

Besides Restaurant Ga Onn and Garden Seafood, this Restaurant Fu Man is another favourite restaurant among the locals in Tanjung Malim. This restaurant is located in Taman Universiti along the old road heading to Kuala Lumpur.

In fact, the Chinese crowd prefer this restaurant over the other two mentioned earlier. This restaurant does have much more food variety to offer and it is usually more crowded than the others. It is also a common sight to see tour buses stopping by here for their meal arrangements. Besides the ground floor, the first floor is also designed as a dining hall and is suitable for wedding functions. The boss here is a very friendly man but unlike Restaurant Ga Onn, they do not usually stop you when you over order. That would be the only setback here, otherwise the food is good and the prices are quite reasonable too.

Chinese Tea @ RM 3.00 per pot
Coca Cola @ RM 2.00
White Rice @ RM 1.50 per plate
Ordering is a breeze here and the boss usually helps out with the food options. Having a larger crowd, the waiting time here is slightly longer but then, it is still bearable as you would usually get the dishes in about 20 to 30 minutes.

Deep Fried Pork Rolls @ RM 12.00
These Deep Fried Pork Rolls are a favourite here and you would observe many tables ordering the same. The Pork Rolls have a succulent filling with a crispy coating that is good to be eaten even on it's own without the dip sauce. Their dip sauce too is homemade and is spicy with a tinge of lemon and garlic. I would rate this dish at 8.8/10

Roasted Pork @ RM 18.00
The Roasted Pork, though slightly dry, was still delicious and juicy with very crispy and crunchy skin. Though a favourite here, I have definitely tried better ones elsewhere. I would rate this dish at 7.5/10

Mapo Tofu @ RM 10.00
The Mapo Tofu was just so so, it was not as spicy as it should have been. The best preparation that I have tried for this is at the Szechuan Restaurant in Sunway Damansara. Comparing to that, this was a let down. I would only rate this at 7/10, nevertheless the portion was huge for the price of RM 10.00 .

Butter Prawns @ RM 16.00
This dish came with five medium sized prawns, coated with flour and butter, and deep fried to a golden brown colour. The preparation was good, really good, and I found this to be better to the one we usually get at Restaurant Ga Onn. I would rate this at 9/10

Steamed Fish with Chili Paste @ RM 30.00
Their Steamed Fish with Chili Paste (Cheong Cheng) was superb! There were loads of the chili paste which was thick and filled with flavours. For this dish, this restaurant has the best preparation in Tanjung Malim. I would strongly recommend this dish at this restaurant. My rating for this dish would be 9.8/10 .
Overall, our lunch was good. The prices were quite reasonable and generally the taste was good, except for two dishes which I have individually mentioned earlier. Definitely a place that is worth revisiting to try out more of their signature dishes.

Restaurant Fu Man is another famous Chinese restaumorerant in Tanjung Malim that is preferred by the locals. This restaurant has been around for more than a decade now and almost everyday, both for lunch and dinner, they are full house. Another reason for this is also their arrangements with some tour companies whereby you would find bus loads of tourists stop by here for their meals. The food here has always been good and the price is very reasonable.

Located in Taman Universiti, this restaurant has two floors. The Ground Floor is similar to any other Chinese Restaurant and the First Floor is designed more like a hall and is air-conditioned. When there are no functions, the First Floor is open to other diners as well. We were here at 8.30 pm and as you can see from the above photographs, the restaurant was full house. They close at sharp 10.30 pm and usually by 10 pm, they would start declining any new customers that walk in. I do not blame them for that as you would be able to see their tiredness on their faces and they too need their well deserved break. Most of their signature dishes are photographed and hung on the walls and this would assist those first timers in placing their orders as they do not have a menu here.

Chinese Tea @ RM 0.50 per glass
Coca Cola @ RM 2.00
White Rice @ RM 1.50 per plate (Big)

Homemade Seaweed Tofu @ RM 12.00
Their Homemade Seaweed Tofu is one of their signature dishes and it is a must try dish. The Tofu has a layer of seaweed on the bottom and the Tofu itself is extremely soft and delicious. This dish is topped with Enoki Mushrooms and Prawns and has Soy and Abalone Sauce poured around it. The dish is simply delicious and I would rate this dish at 9.3/10

Steamed Minced Pork Meat Patty @ RM 12.00
This was another dish that was not available as their usual offerings and it was specially prepared for us as I had requested for it. Despite that, the minced meat patty was wonderfully steamed and flavoured.  I definitely think that it was an excellent first attempt. The meat patty was soft and fluffy and was steamed to just the right level. The sauces too added to the taste and it was really good. I would rate this dish at 9/10

Mixed Vegetable Soup @ RM 8.00
The Soup, though a fairly simple dish, tasted absolutely good. There was nothing much in it but taste wise it was very satisfying. There was no MSG added and all flavourings were natural. For the price of RM 8.00, the portion was good and it was good to serve each of us two helpings of the soup. I would rate this dish at 9.4/10

Steamed Fish With Ginger @ RM 20.00
This was the superstar dish of the day. I have tried this dish in a number of places including some of the famous high end restaurants in Kuala Lumpur but this preparation would beat them all. The fish was simply juicy and there was a lavish amounts of ginger on the fish. Definitely a perfect preparation that deserves nothing less than a 10/10 . This would definitely be a highly recommended dish at this restaurant.

Overall, all the food that we had today was just excellent and the prices were very reasonable if not cheap for the portion sizes. Perhaps now you would be able to see why this shop is very much preferred by the locals and I have seen a number of large families that drive up from Kuala Lumpur to have their meals here. If you are in this part of the country, I would strongly recommend you to drop by and try the food here
